CrossFit was definitely different than anything Judy had done in the past, but she came in saying that if she was going to do it at all, she was going to really give it a chance!
Open minded, funny, kind; we could go on! One surprise for us was to discover there is a cold blooded killer under that smiling face! She's got goals and she isn't afraid to work her butt off for them! She's gotten so much stronger, improved her mobility, and made some great changes with her nutrition because she did one important thing from the beginning... she gave it a chance. She attended consistently. Mornings, evenings, whatever was required to get a few workouts in. We're beyond excited to celebrate Judy this month! It's about time!!
1. Why did you start CrossFit?
I have never been able to find a form of exercise that I actually enjoyed and wanted to do. I loved how I felt after exercising, but dreaded doing it and HATED it while I was doing it. A friend talked about CrossFit so enthusiastically, saying it was “the gym she didn’t know she needed”. She emphasized how it works for all levels and how welcoming everyone was so I gave it a shot. She was 100% correct!!! It is for all levels, and the community is AMAZING. I can actually say I enjoy it (maybe not in the middle of burpees, but you get the idea). I am learning new skills, getting stronger, and I love that personal growth is celebrated.
2. What advice would you give yourself before starting CrossFit?
Just try it – the (very supportive) community is there …the skills will come. No one is judging you so stop judging yourself. Just show up and try it – then KEEP showing up.

Growth is slow but steady progress is still forward movement!
3. What are your nutrition goals for the next 6 months?
DRINK. MORE. WATER.
Also get more protein - I’m always looking for new ways to get more protein in each day, that can be a challenge for me.
Through CrossFit’s nutrition support I have learned it’s best for me to have a plan – keep things for snacks and dinners on hand (the whole “failing to plan is planning to fail” thing really applies to me) - So I would like to continue to have a plan for each day.
4. How do you feel about burpees? Don't hold back
Eww – not a favorite, but I am happy to say I CAN do them, so if they are in a workout, I have learned if I just chip away at them I can mentally get through it. But seriously… 0/10 would not recommend.
5. What are you reading or watching right now? Would you recommend it?
I just watched The Residence (it’s on Netflix) -SO GOOD – I highly recommend it!
I also like watching Will Trent, Elsbeth, Tracker, mystery-type shows are my favorite (especially with some comedy thrown in)
I’m also a big podcast listener- again mystery/true crime is my preference – People are the Worst, True Crime and Cocktails, and Crime Junkie are some of my favorites.
