We are so proud of our December Member of the Month, Jess! She’s been a long time member, but she’s really turned it up a notch recently. She’s never short on sass and she’s one of our favorite people to give it right back to! Even though there might be a complaint or 2 when she sees the workout, she loves a challenge and will make sure we don’t make the workout too easy for her! She hasn’t let anything get in the way of her consistency the last several months and we’re so proud of the results she’s achieved! Congratulations Jess!

Why do you do CrossFit?
I started doing CrossFit for weight loss but now it is so much more. I come for the mental health benefits. CrossFit is just good for my soul. I want to be active and strong for as long as I can. The coaches and my fellow “CrossFitters” are wonderful and encouraging people. I know everyone says it but it really IS all about the community. 

What do you do for a living?
I am the VP of Domestic Relations 😉  

What is your best advice for someone just starting CrossFit?

My best advice for someone starting CrossFit is to not feel intimidated. You will definitely want to sleep all day after some workouts. Allow your body time to adjust. When you wake up sore the next day and can barely get out of bed from the soreness. Attend another class. When you think you could not possibly do another squat, suddenly you pump out 40+ more and the soreness is gone. Soon you will see the results, you will feel stronger, you will add more weights, you will achieve new movements and THAT will feed your soul. Oh and for best results cut out processed foods.

What is your favorite kind of workout or movement?  
My absolute favorite movement is rope climbs. I also like snatches and kettlebell swings. I love workouts that are so intense that I feel like I may not survive and then I do. Then I think to myself, ” Wow, I just did that! ” You want to talk about empowerment!

What’s your favorite activity/hobby outside the gym?
When not at the gym you will find me in my kitchen. I love to create delicious meals from whole foods that are gluten and lactose free. I also love to travel. Puerto Rico is my favorite place to be. I enjoy watching movies and snuggling with my dog, Gracie. Soon I look forward to ridiculously spoiling a grandbaby.
