Meet Alex! He has been with us for a few years and is a regular at our 5am class. We love working with Alex, not only because he’s a hardworker, but because he also prioritizes doing things well. For a crossfitter, this might be the most valuable skill. He’s also one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and, somehow, is always in a good mood. It must be bis completely stress free job! (wink)

Why do you do CrossFit?
I really enjoy the variety in the workouts, from Olympic lifts to chippers. The coaches keep a close eye on all of us and have great feedback while we’re working. For me, I tend to overthink everything and it’s helpful to hear a coach say, “It’s ok, you can handle this.” And finally, I really enjoy the special kind of crazy that is the 5 am class.

What do you do for a living?
I’m an infectious disease doctor.

What is your best advice for someone just starting CrossFit?
Accept every challenge and stick to good technique. All of the PR’s, fastest times, and newest skills came from a humble start.

What is your favorite kind of workout or movement?
I love the Olympic lifts. I might like deadlifting 😉 It’s amazing how your body can generate so much force when it’s done in a coordinated, stabilized way – you literally are powerful beyond belief.

What’s your favorite activity/hobby outside the gym?
I have been playing competitive volleyball since my teens: indoors and grass are my favorites. I am learning how to play mah jong so any leads on people to play with are appreciated!
